Job Crew

The other part of our service is our job crew projects, which consist of a team of support workers, volunteers and clients tackling community and environmental projects around Shetland. These have been very successful in boosting clients confidence, communication and teamwork skills in order to assist them into employment, training or volunteering. The aim is for clients to use the job crew as a first step towards what employment would be like. The job crew has been very successful at enabling people to move forward with their lives and helping them take control of what they want to do. The tasks job crews undertake, frequently benefit the local community and environment as well, which are two of the things that make Shetland special.

Our custom built minibus, enabling us to transport, clients, volunteers, support workers, tools and equipment to the many and varied sites we undertake job crew projects

Each project is thoroughly planned months in advance and is usually undertaken 1 day a week for a set amount of weeks so as not to affect clients benefits. We’ve done a wide variety of tasks such as painting, gardening, croft work, clearing beaches of rubbish, cutting grass, DIY, cleaning, and creating a recipe or calendar book. We’ve done work for individuals, schools, organisations, community halls and groups in locations as far afield as Unst, Fetlar, Dunrossness, Whalsay, Sandness, Ollaberry, Levenwick and more, as well as in the photos you can see in the gallery.
