Marie Fullerton aged 35 of Gulberwick, has been successful in gaining entry to two full marathons, on 2 consecutive weekends and will be running for 3 Shetland Charities - the Moving On Employment Project, COPE Ltd and Disability Shetland. The first marathon is in Copenhagen on Sunday the 20th May with the second being the Edinburgh marathon on Sunday the 27th.

Marie did the Edinburgh Marathon back in 2008 when she ran for CLAN and raised a staggering £7,267.08, this was also her very first marathon, and was totally overwhelmed by the generosity of the Shetland Community. She recalls crossing the finishing line, happy, tired but very emotional, knowing what she had just achieved.

At present, Marie tries to go out for a run 3 times a week, each time doing a 6-mile run, but now has a training programme in place so the weekly mileage will increase. Marie told us that she doesn’t see herself as a fast runner in anyway, she keeps to what she thinks is a sensible but steady pace and hopefully this will see her to the 26.2 mile finish line each time

If you would like to make a donation, you can do so by:

1.Visiting Marie’s online fundraising page

www.charitygiving.co.uk/mariefullerton

Once on this page, you will find instructions on how to make your

donation(s).

You can pay by credit/debit card or paypal and the money will go directly to whichever charity you have donated to. Where supporters are UK taxpayers, the charity will automatically receive 25% extra in Gift Aid, which makes charitygiving the most efficient way of sponsoring & donating.

2. Sending a cheque, made payable to ‘The Dove Trust’ and posted to:

Marie Fullerton

Setter Farmhouse

Gulberwick

Shetland

ZE2 9JX

3. Calling her on 07818455576 or email marie.fullerton@hotmail.co.uk to arrange your donation.

Any donations received offline, will also be added to Marie’s charitygiving page.

Any amount sponsored by you, will be much appreciated by Marie and the chosen charities.

Marie would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored her so far.

.

MOVING ON EMPLOYMENT PROJECT LTD

Moving On have been shortlisted a prestigious SURF award for best practice in community regeneration. The award is given annually by the Scottish Regeneration Network in partnership with the Scottish Goverment.

Moving On is one of five organisations in Scotland shortlisted under the ‘Employability for All’ category for their job crew project. A panel of four judges from the Scottish Goverment will be coming to Shetland on the 17th October to judge the project. A winner will be announced on the 27th October and invited to a gala dinner and awards ceremony in December in Glasgow.

Project Co-ordinator Kellie Naulls said ‘We are delighted as this is the second national award that we have been shortlisted for this year, we were also shortlisted for the SCVO ‘Scottish Charity of the Year’ in the Spring.

PRESS RELEASE 6th SEPTEMBER 2011

MOVING ON EMPLOYMENT PROJECT LTD

A new community garden at Staneyhill in Lerwick has been launched today. It was developed by Moving On Employment Project in partnership with the North Staney Hill Community Association and funded by a Wir Community, Wir Choice grant.

It has been one of the biggest job crew projects that Moving On has undertaken to date with fifteen people taking part including those from the North Road area. Over the past few months local residents have been consulted about the design of the garden. Feedback was for a low maintenance garden that was an attractive focal point for the community.

Work was taken place during August and included the erection of a specially designed wooden fence, construction of raised beds from railway sleepers and the laying of a footpath with chips and membrane. Plants and shrubs for the garden have been sourced through COPE Ltd and include Lonicera, Honeysuckle, Hebe bushes, Lupin, Hosta, Weigela and Columbine. Bulbs have also been planted throughout the garden including daffodils, crocus and tulips which will bring colour in the Spring.

The project has been a great success with many positive comments received about the garden from local residents. North Staney Hill Community Association Vice Chair Caroline Henderson said ‘Considering the summer, or lack of, that we’ve had, to create anything is quite an achievement, let alone something of this level of thought, planning and effort, so a huge well done to the Moving On Team’.

June Porter, SIC Community Work Officer for the area said: “The garden looks fantastic – it’s great to see another one of the Wir Community, Wir Choice projects voted for by the local community, come to fruition. Hopefully this will encourage the community to come forward and get involved in the community bulb planting project which will be getting underway in the coming months.”

Moving On would like to thank North Staney Hill Community Association, Shetland Islands Council and also the Staney Hill community for their positive encouragement and comments during the project.

Below is the Executive Summary of Moving On’s 2011 Evaluation of Service which has shown that Moving On continues to provide a professional and highly regarded service to it’s clients, volunteers, customers, employers and other partner agencies.

As always, all comments and results are taken into consideration with the view to develop the service further. If you would like a copy of the complete 26 page evaluation, please contact us and we will be happy to provide one.

Evaluation of Service Executive Summary 2011

An evaluation of Moving On’s service was carried out recently. This aimed to identify how the service could be further improved. A questionnaire was given to all clients who received direct support, employers, partnership agencies, job crew customers and volunteers who have had contact with the project during 2010 – 11. For the first time the evaluation was made available on the internet using Survey Monkey. This proved to be a popular way to respond. It also meant that the general public were able to also contribute.

Clients appear to benefit from the service offered with 82% stating they were helped by the advice and support given and 89% satisfied with the service provided. 84% of clients said that gaining employment has resulted in feeling more part of the community and 87% feel more confident about work. 66% of clients report an improvement to their health which is significant and many clients have long term disabilities and health problems.

The numbers of people assisted by the project continues to increase from 59 people in 2006 to 120 in 2011 with a fifth self referring. 85% of clients who have been discharged from Moving On are still in employment, education or training.

89% employers said that they would offer an employment opportunity to a client of the Moving On following their experience and that they have been assisted in providing supportive work placements. 95% feel that they as employers and clients were adequately supported prior to and during the placement.

Multi-agencies reported that they are happy with services provided, the throughput of people using the service and that Moving On works in partnership with their organisation.

Service improvements suggested include helping clients releasing their goals, sharing the benefits of having a placement with all to encourage them to support and take part, different types of job crews and more awareness raising to ensure the Shetland Community to ensure everyone knows what we offer.

Comments include ‘We have been very impressed by the enthusiasm and positivity that comes across from staff members, ‘keep up the good work’, ‘just glad you exist’ and ‘well done on growing and developing’.

Following this feedback, a review has been performed and an action plan will be put place to further develop the service to meet the needs of clients, employers, partnership agencies, volunteers and the Community.

Thank you

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all clients who have used the service and to all employers, volunteers, partnership agencies, funders and the Shetland Community for supporting us over the past year.
