Below is a selection of frequently asked questions about our service. If you would like to know more, please do not hestitate to get in touch.

What is Moving On?

The Moving On Employment Project is a charity based organisation which has been running for around 15 years.  Moving On supports people with barriers to employment into employment, volunteering and  training.

Who can access Moving On?

Anyone over the age of 16 with a barrier to employment can access Moving On.  A wide range of people access Moving On each year, including people with a lack of confidence.

Where is Moving On available?

Moving On is based at  Market House in Lerwick, however we try to support in all rural areas of Shetland.

We have had successful placements from Unst to Sumburgh.

How do I access Moving On?

To access Moving On you need to complete a referral form.  To get an application either contact Moving On or fill out the application on the website.

What does Moving On offer?

Moving On has a wide range of different services available.

Core service—the original service provided by Moving On.  Provides one to one support to anyone with a barrier to employment.

Mental Health service—provides one to one support to people with mental health problems.

Transition—provides one to one support to 16—25 year olds with additional support needs or autistic spectrum conditions.

Job Crew—provides support to work in groups, on projects in the community.

What is available to school-leavers?

Moving On can be accessed by anyone over the age of 16.  For each individual it will depend on their barrier to employment to which service is most suitable.

Who can refer?

Anyone over 16 can refer to Moving On.  If you want to access the service you can complete the referral form yourself or have someone else complete it for you.

What is the referral process?

Once you have completed your referral form you will meet with our project co-ordinator and speak about the service.  When there is space on the caseload for the service you require, you will begin work with your support worker.  An action plan will be drawn up with  the goals you wish to achieve and we will help you achieve this.

What training will I do?

Moving On will support clients to access any training that is appropriate to the work that they are carrying out.  All clients will be required to complete a short course in Heath & Safety /  Manual Handling before starting Job Crew or a placement.

What placements can I access?

Moving On have a large database of employers.  Support Workers will support you to find work you enjoy and match your skills where possible.

What support is there for employers?

Moving On supports the employer as well as the client during a work placement.  This has proven to be a benefit as any problems are dealt with quickly.

Does it cost to use the service?

No, the service is free and confidential.

How long will Moving On support me?

Moving On will support someone for as long as required.  Everyone who accesses Moving On will require different support.  So it will all depend on the individual.

Will it affect my benefits?

Moving On work closely with the Job Centre Plus and the Department of Work and Pensions to ensure that the work anyone carries out does not affect the benefits they are receiving.

Can I volunteer to help at Moving On?

Moving On welcomes anyone who would like to volunteer for the service.  If you are interested please get in contact.

How is Moving On run?

Moving On is run by a voluntary board of directors.  The daily running is looked to by Kellie Naulls the Project Co-ordinator.
